​​Ambassador Yasser Sorour is a distinguished Egyptian diplomat who currently serves as the Assistant Foreign Minister for Sudan and South Sudan in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt. His career began after he graduated from the Faculty of Commerce at Cairo University in 1990, and he officially joined the Foreign Ministry in 1995. Before entering diplomatic service, Sorour worked as a financial auditor, but his drive to engage with diverse cultures and traditions led him to a career in international relations.
His early career involved significant exposure to international diplomacy, as he participated in Egyptian delegations to various global conferences and worked within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Conference.A significant focus of Ambassador Sorour's career has been the River Nile file, a crucial national security issue for Egypt, for which he held responsibility for over twelve years, demonstrating his expertise in complex regional water politics.
His overseas experience includes postings at Egyptian embassies in Pakistan, Italy, and New York. Notably, he served as the Ambassador of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), a post where he actively worked to strengthen bilateral relations, promote cultural, economic, and trade cooperation, and highlight Egypt's historical contribution to peacekeeping in the Balkans. Throughout his service, Sorour has consistently represented Egypt's foreign policy on critical regional issues, including the call for a sustainable ceasefire and the rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians in the Gaza conflict.

In his most recent and current capacity as Assistant Foreign Minister for Sudan and South Sudan, Ambassador Sorour is at the forefront of handling one of Egypt's most sensitive diplomatic portfolios. His work involves navigating the political complexities and internal conflicts in Sudan, where he has consistently stressed Egypt's rejection of parallel governments and affirmed support for the unity and legitimate institutions of the Sudanese state. His role underscores Egypt's commitment to facilitating political, negotiated solutions to the Sudanese crisis.
